‘To the acute observer, the individual who makes every first look a double take, the streets are not what they seem. They manifest the song and dance of the humdrum and read poetry into their far-flung alleys and well-trodden paths. Tasked with the passion for image-making, these observers are the few among us that transform our unglamorous surroundings and make obvious the understated beauty of mundanity. Christian Lukasik is one of these observers, an appropriator of the perceivable world who mythologises the idiosyncratic characters of Melbourne’s city and inner-western suburbs. In his show, working under the moniker of kino_oko, Lukasik inscribes a deep cognizance for pathos into these characters that epitomises his love for the streets, their song, and their beauty.’ - Remus Care-Parisi
